New Haven House built by Benedict Arnold in 1790
The house Benedict Arnold built on Water Street in New Haven about 1770 when he was rolling in dough. It looked like this circa 1910 just before it was demolished. The state confiscated the house after the Revolution. It was later owned and occupied by Noah Webster, but it fell on hard times and was eventually used by a lumber dealer for storage. This entire neighborhood was later destroyed by government grants for urban renewal - kind of tragic.
